Zero Trace

Your carbon footprint for the last year is your total emissions minus any credits you transacted.

You can, but 100% offset is not required. We understand the energy transition is going to take time. As the world advances towards Net-Zero in 2030, we are moving the needle.

We’ll do the heavy lifting for you, but you’ll need to have some information:

  1. The number of airline miles you flew,
  2. The vehicles you drove (cars, motorcycles, boats, ATVs, etc), how many miles you drove them, and what their gas mileage was,
  3. The homes you owned or lived in, how large they were, what type they were (e.g., apartment or single family home), and how long they were in use.

Based on that information we estimate your total emissions for the last year.

We use the information you provide in the Emissions section of the application about your emissions for the previous year as input to our emissions model. Our emissions model is based on analysis from many sources including:

The values we calculate are based on averages and as such may vary slightly from what a detailed analysis of any individual's particular circumstances would yield.

We will continue to enhance our model over time as the science evolves.

Zero Trace offers you a selection of projects from which you can buy carbon credits. You may pay using a credit card or other popular payment applications such as Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Once you transact, Zero Trace will permanently remove credits from circulation on a periodic basis. This process is referred to as retirement.

Retiring a carbon credit permanently removes that credit from circulation. This means that only you may take credit for that reduction of CO2 in our atmosphere. No other individual or company may claim that credit.

Purchasing and retiring carbon credits has an additional benefit: You’re sending a price signal to carbon project developers around the world to develop more projects. And that makes the world better for all of us.

Zero Trace utilizes a not-for-profit independent organization, the American Carbon Registry, to retire offsets.

No. We utilize Stripe to manage our account transactions. Visit their webpage to see how many companies you already know that rely on Stripe.

Transparency is key, it's how you know that your money has been put to good use.

When we retire your carbon credits, we batch your tons with other people who have made purchases in the same project. This provides you a measure of anonymity but still allows you to track your carbon credits.

We provide a link on every retirement to the independent third party American Carbon Registry so that you can be assured that your offsets were retired.

No. We do not share any of your information that you enter to help us determine your emissions. We do not share information about your emissions nor your transactions. You control whether you share any of your information on social media, we only provide you the links to do so.
